The International Organization for Migration (IOM) works with a variety of stakeholders to promote safe, regular and orderly migration and inclusive development for the benefit of all. The private sector is an important partner in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Compact for Migration.  

Migration, Business and Human Rights (MBHR) in Asia is a programme implemented by IOM across Asia to support the private sector and governments in upholding the human and labour rights of migrantss in key sectors and migration corridors. The programme's aim is the full respect of the rights of migrants, especially women and marginalized groups, across global supply chains. 

Building on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we develop partnerships and projects with the private sector to build commitments to end exploitation of migrant workers, implement human rights standards that address migrant workers’ vulnerabilities, and promote collaboration across sectors and between all stakeholders for sustainable positive change. 

Our vision

• Widespread access to ethical recruitment and decent work for migrant workers from Asia and the elimination of exploitative practices, including forced labour and human trafficking.
• Labour migration for work supports the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.
• Migrant workers are empowered to support themselves, their families and communities
• Businesses fulfill their responsibility to respect human rights through migrant-centered policies, effective human rights due diligence and remediation systems that address the unique risks faced by migrant workers.
• Gender equality and women’s empowerment is an integral part of international labour migration management.
• Environmental degradation and climate change in Asia do not increase the specific vulnerabilities of migrant workers.
